LIFTING HIGH THE CROSS FOR 150+ YEARS
Shumway Trinity Lutheran Church is a charming country church that has been a staple of the area since 1864. With roots reaching well before the town of Shumway itself was established, it has proven to stand against the test of time by remaining steadfast in the pursuit to deliver the word of God to the people. In 2017, the church joined North American Lutheran Church (NALC) to remain a church family committed to the authority of the Bible as the inspired Word of God.

REV. W. Carol Johnson and her husband Chuck
W. Carol Johnson, previously a counselor, teacher, and religion editor, has served as a Lutheran pastor for over twenty years and is leading the congregation of the Shumway Trinity Lutheran Church. She comes to us with an extensive amount of experience both of the church as well as life. She now resides in Shumway with her husband Chuck, but she is originally from Kentucky. Before becoming the pastor for Shumway TLC, she was a part-time interim pastor for North American Lutheran Church (NALC) and Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC) for rural churches which led her to Shumway, IL, in 2017 where she was set up to help TLC join as NALC. She also served on the candidacy committee for NALC and had been active in Karios Prison Ministries International, in Kentucky.
Her favorite pastime is spending time with her five children and seven grandchildren. She enjoys long walks in the country, reading, movies, a good cup of tea with a friend, and writing. It's always a delightful treat when Pastor Carol sings a special song for the congregation bringing forth her musical roots to set the stage for the Lord's message.
